The manifold air pressure sensor and mass airflow sensor along with the throttle position sensor and vehicle speed sensor also give inputs too the PCM as too how the transmission should shift, probably the two most important inputs being the throttle position sensor and the vehicle speed sensor, if any of these things are off odd transmission issues can be a result. if it starts heading towards the 3/4 mark on the gauge this is where you should start being concerned about a over heat condition, engine temp should be between 190-220 degrees with a scan tool with live data anything over 220 and then i would start too be concerned about a over heat condition.Ī MAF sensor can cause hard shifts but so can a MAP, and the Throttle position sensor, and various other things, if there is a code for the MAF sensor try cleaning it first with MAF sensor cleaner, and if that doesn’t work and the wiring is good too it and the connections aren’t corroded and you are also having other drivability issues besides hard shifting then replace the MAF sensor.Ī bad coolant temp sensor would also probably cause his temperature gauge too give him very funky readings as well as other concerns it could be a coolant temp sensor but… usually when a GM car has issues with coolant temp sensors like irregular readings i have experienced with my car that it will throw a code for it turn on the engine light and kick the radiator fans on.
